Art Below is a public arts organisation founded in 2006 with a simple but radical premise: To Turn Ad space into Art Space.
As Art Below enters its twentieth anniversary year, it remains open by design, open to new voices, new collaborations, and new ways of working while staying true to its founding purpose: giving emerging artists a platform to reach a public audience.
Since its inception, Art Below has worked extensively across the London Underground using billboard space to showcase art in place of advertising transforming corridors, platforms, and stations into temporary galleries.
Art Below has collaborated with leading artists, galleries, and museums, as well as universities, charities, and cultural partners, using public space as a platform for artistic expression and social engagement.
While rooted in London, Art Below’s exhibitions extend internationally, with projects staged in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Berlin.
Art Below’s exhibitions are defined not by hierarchy but by context, placing globally recognised artists alongside emerging talent in public space, where the work meets a broad, unfiltered audience.
Above ground, Art Below’s work is anchored through its partnership with Adlib Gallery in Wimbledon Village, hosting private views and group exhibitions connected to Underground projects, and offering a place for artists, collectors, and supporters to gather and continue the conversation.
Often attracting headlines through bold and occasionally controversial posters and billboards, Art Below embraces the productive tension that can arise when contemporary art enters civic space.
As it enters its twentieth year, Art Below continues to evolve while staying true to its founding purpose: turning ad space into art space, and keeping contemporary art visible, accessible, and part of everyday life.
